Coaching FAQ
What are your coaching fees?
- Fees vary based on the type of service. Contact me with your specific needs to obtain an exact quote. Packages can be constructed for many budget levels. Some examples:
- Private coaching for track day right seat, basic sports car (Less than 350 horsepower): $500/day
- Private coaching for track day right seat, midrange sports car (350 to 500 horsepower): $750/day
- Private coaching for track day, right seat, supercar (500 plus horsepower): $1,000/day
- Trackside track day coaching, any car (take notes from corners outside, debrief after session): $400/day
- Road Race trackside, data, video, radio, and setup coaching: $1,000/day
What tracks will you travel to?
- I will travel to any track in the US for private coaching. Travel to tracks outside of my local area (Thunderhill, Sonoma, Laguna Seca) will incur travel fees, either mileage rate of $0.50 per mile or price of plane ticket.
What are your travel fees?
- I am based in the California Bay Area and travel to Thunderhill Raceway Park, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, and Sonoma Raceway (Infineon/Sears Point) is covered in the coaching fee. However, trips to other tracks will require extra travel fees. Cover my plane ticket or pay my mileage rate of .50 per mile for travel by car and it's all good.
Any other fees?
- Yes. Due to a recent rash of deadly crashes for instructors, I charge an "off track" fee for off track excursions while I am riding in your car. The fee is $10 per tire that leaves the race track. a spin will incur a $50 charge. So, for instance, if you spin and put the rear two tires off the track, the penalty is $70. $50 for the spin, + $10 +$10 for each tire.
Do you rent cars?
- Yes. I have a partnership with AR-G Motorsports which is a professional race team. We have an E46 BMW 330 that is available for rent, as well as an E46 M3 street/track car available. We also have a Spec Miata.
What track day organizations do you coach with?
- I will coach at any organizer event. Check with your organizer to see if they allow passengers. Otherwise we can handle it all with video and data review, and watching from various corners!
Will you drive my car during the coaching day?
- Only if requested, otherwise you are the driver! By driving your car I can illustrate some driving techniques more clearly, but it is not required.
Do you have a passenger-driver helmet intercomm?
- Yes.
Do you have radio equipment?
- Not at this time.
Do you provide video or data recording systems?
- All video and data systems must be provided by the driver.
Can you take multiple drivers per day for private coaching?
- Technically I can. I don't like to do it since it divides my attention which means slightly less precise feedback for the drivers. It's also a LOT of right-seat for me. A typical track day is 5 twenty minute sessions for each driver. If I take two drivers now I do 8 to 10 sessions in a day... I will allow two drivers to share a day, as long as you don't ask me to do it too often!
Do you provide simulators to use?
- Not at this time.
